Following complaints by the public that sections of the moat appear to be turning more brown than usual, the municipality has come out to clarify that all tests have shown that the water is healthy and there has been no damage to the environment due to the change in colour.
Mayor of Chiang Mai Assanee Buranupakorn told the media yesterday that the water colour has only changed due to the amount of silt which has been washed down in recent rains from the mountains.
However, the mayor said that he has ordered the moat to be washed out with fresh water being brought in from the Jang Hua Rin moat corner, allowing the silt to settle, before flushing it out next week.
