CityNews – Chiang Mai people gathered for a big merit making event on Peng Pud day.
Peng Pud is a midnight offering ceremony usually occurring on the 15th day of the waxing moon that falls on a Wednesday, of an unspecified month, and is one of the most important merit making occasions for Lanna people. This year the ceremony commenced around 10pm on January 30th with a sermons in temples which continued into the merit making around midnight of the 31st. Over 300 monks were reportedly gathered at Wat Upakhut with many Buddhists participating.
Wat Suan Dok reported that all the monetary offers will be used to renovate the temple’s viharn luang and the dry foods will be distributed to other temples.
