CityNews – 23rd December 2019, reporters interviewed a man after seeing a clip on social media of him, as a rescue team member of Maejo municipality, pulling down a man who was sitting, looking like he was going to jump, from the edge of a pedestrian overpass in front of Maejo University the night previously. Withawat Sinworasrithaweekhoon, is the head of rescue team Maejo.

On the night of 22nd December after receiving reports from Maejo police about a man sitting on the edge of the overpass, preparing to jump down, the rescue team rushed to the scene. According to reports, after the police tried to talk for one hour with the man (some sources said he was a second year Maejo Univeristy student), Withawat decided to dress up like a homeless man searching garbage and tacitly co-ordinated with police officers to draw the man’s attention somewhere else. When the time was right he grabbed the man from his back and pulled him down to safety before the police took him to Maejo police station to contact his relatives.

Withawat said that he didn’t want to be a hero, he just wanted to save a life and thanked policemen and people nearby in that situation for not forming a crowd to pressure the man.
