CityNews – On May 10th, another meeting was held to discuss the movement of Loy Kroh street vendors after years of ignored demands by authorities.
This issue, which has been ongoing for over a year, has plagued the area. Citylife reported on the issue in July 2017 (click here to read) with many of the opinions from both the authorities and the vendors still standing today.
After the NCPO order to re-organise roadsides to give back space to traffic and pedestrians, the authorities found a new location for a group of vendors on the Loy Kroh Road (stretching from the McDonald’s to the Iron Bridge) at a roadside location near Wat Sri Don Chai (opposite Pantip Plaza) along the Night Bazaar Road.
The meeting in July 2017 set out a deadline of September 1st, 2017 for vendors to move to the new location, but the vendors once again ignored it.
Officials have said that they have been unable to enforce the order.
Over 80 people attended the meeting ,but still after three hours of intense discussion, an agreement was not made. Authorities also brought new issues to the table, such as hygiene and the poor appearance of the street due to the vendors.
