CityNews published the warning by authorities that Mae Kuang Dam may be closed to visitors if they keep leaving rubbish lying around and not being respectful of the environment.

This afternoon CityNews learned that the people of Baan Pong Moo 6 in Sansai District held a meeting earlier this month and reached the agreement that they will temporarily close the Huay Jo Reservoir to visitors, again, due to the large number of rubbish left daily as well as unruly behaviour of the students.

According to reports following the meeting, the majority of people who enjoy the reservoir are Maejo University students who typically go to hang out, drink or have parties at the dam from before sunset to nearly midnight daily. Students are said to bring food and drinks to the dam, leaving their waste for locals to clean up.

Locals also complain that in spite of multiple requests, many students drive their motorbikes down from the dam at great speed and often with great noise, causing disruption to the mainly-farming community.

Therefore the Baan Pong community is formally closing the Huay Jo Reservoir until further notice.
