CityNews – 26th February 2020, at the Chiang Mai Historical Centre, there was a signing ceremony to mark the commencement of the development of a walking area in Chiang Mai under the project “Good Walk Chiang Mai”.

Sunthorn Yamsiri, Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai presided over the opening ceremony which has been signed in collaboration with Kon Jai Baan, Chiang Mai Green Beauty Scented, Rak Chiang Mai Network, Thai Health and Urban Design and Development Centre with the aim of turning Chiang Mai city where people walk.

The deputy mayor conceded that Chiang Mai has developed at such a rapid pace that its current traffic and public transportation problems are impediments towards proper growth. Whereas Chiang Mai has expanded its trade, investment and tourism industries, it has not addressed nor planned for the development of public transportation, leading to congested roads filled with private vehicles and pollution.

Therefore, these agencies have come together to develop this new project with the aim to increase green areas, encourage people and tourists to walk in the old town, reduce vehicle usage and improve public service. The aim is to develop Chiang Mai to be a livable city, encouraging investors and tourists to come to Chiang Mai more in the future.

Details were not forthcoming at this time. Citylife plans to look into it more.
