CityNews – Hail and thunderstorms damaged hundreds of homes in Chiang Rai, damaging the roofs of several houses as well as their farmland and agricultural products over the weekend.

On April 6th, the heavy rain and hailstones destroyed many residents’ houses and agricultural products in the districts of Muang Chiang Rai, Wieng-chai, Thoeng, Mae chan and Mae Fah Luang. The roofs of many houses in Baan Pongnamtong, Bandu sub-district, were pelted with the big hailstones and several were destroyed. The Relief Protect Public Hazard team of Chiang Rai and local government are now helping the victims.

The thunderstorm also hit Kampheangphet province hard and damaged 137 houses in Kosamphinakhon district. Wisanu Sundee (40), a local resident, said that around 7.30 p.m. on April 5th the thunderstorm produced winds so strong that roofs were blown off and that his house shook so hard that his family had to hide in a room downstairs until the storm stopped. Nopparat, the Kosamphinakhon sheriff, says he has already reported the damage to the provincial governor in a request for help.
