Expat Journalist Missing in Cambodia

 | Tue 25 Feb 2014 10:28 ICT

CityNews  – Dave Walker (58), a Canadian expatriate living in Cambodia, known to journalists and filmmakers working in Thailand, has been missing in Cambodia since February 14th.

He was last seen at Green Village Angkor Guesthouse in Siam Reap, where many of his a belongings, including passport, mobile phone and a laptop, were found after he went missing. It’s reported that Walker had left for a short time while maids cleaned his room.

In 2012 Walker, along with a local filmmaker and fellow journalist, Sonny Chhoun, created Animist Farm Films in an attempt to improve Cambodia’s once vibrant film scene.  On the day Walker went missing Chhoun was supposed to meet him, but Walker never showed.

It’s been expressed in some Canadian news reports that Walker’s friends thought he was a sensible man, a non-drinker, and a man with his wits when it comes to travelling, and so the same people are treating his disappearance very suspiciously.

Others have speculated that his disappearance may have had something to do with the film he was working on, The Poorest Man, which depicts the brutality of the Khmer Rouge during the 1970s.

Many of those involved – and were never arrested – with the torture and killing of millions of Cambodians are now facing a tribunal backed by the United Nations.

If you know anything, or may have sighted Mr Walker, please don’t hesitate to contact [email protected] or call 096 720 5219.
