Donate to your nearest firefighters

CityNews – Wutthichai Somwipak, Head of the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park came out to thank everyone who has kindly donated towards this year’s firefighting efforts, saying that firefighters have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support with all the donations of water, supplies, firefighting equipment, medical aid, energy drinks and more.

He said that while it has been heartening to see how many people have donated towards their efforts, he would like to say that the department does have a budget to care for its staff and there is no real need. He would like to urge people, many of whom have driven from afar to the Doi-Suthep Pui National Park headquarters bearing goods, that it is better to donate to offices near you. “Every village head, sub-district and district office is plugged into our communications system,” he said.  “So as not to drive too far, or waste our resources in having to reassign goods, it is best to take your donations to the nearest office and donate there. It is these smaller volunteer units, or local police or army or even community fire fighters who may also benefit from such donations. It will find its way to the closest firefighters to you, who may be in more need than ours here in Chiang Mai city.” He went on to say that the office doesn’t normally accept donations of any kind as they are a government office. But that outlying firefighters on other mountains may need it more. Other districts in need include Hang Dong, Mae Rim and Mae Taeng, all of which have their own firefighting units and offices.
