CityNews – Deputy Director-General of the Department of Employment, Theerapon Khunmuang, visited Chiang Mai’s One Stop Service to check up on the progress of extending work permits of migrant labourers.
Many labourers visited the temporary registration location at the Agricultural Product-Central Market to renew work permits that had expired on March 31.
According to Theerapon, there are around 40,000 migrant workers and their family members in Chiang Mai.
Between April 1 – 22, 5,323 labourers registered at the One Stop Service. The majority of workers registered are from Burma (5,189), followed by Cambodia (81) and Lao (53).
Queues were still long so Theerapon has advised businesses and other employers to book in advance by contacting the Chiang Mai Employment Office at 053 112 911-4 or 085 695 5573.
The One Stop Service is capped at 700 registrations per day.
