CMU Faculty of Medicine on How to Stay Healthy During Burning Season

CityNews – Chiang Mai University Faculty of Medicine has suggested ways to deal with the air pollution and how to stay healthy during Chiang Mai’s smog season.

1.      Motorists set their cars’ air conditioners to internal circulation.

2.      Motorcyclists should wear protective goggles, dust masks or damp cloths at all times.

3.      Avoid outdoor activities. Only go outside if necessary.

4.      Avoid outdoor exercise, especially those with respiratory diseases.

5.      Always wear a mask when you have a cold.

6.      Gargle and rinse mouth with saline solution 3-4 times daily.

7.      Patients with respiratory tract disease and/or heart disease should carry their vital medications at all times. See your physician at the first sign of trouble.

8.      Avoid environment where there is smoke, toxic fumes from exhaust pipes and chemical vapors.

9.      Avoid cooking with firewood or burning any incense that produces harmful smoke and cancer-causing agents.

10.  Use a fan to draw out air from buildings or houses. Install water curtains or misting valves on the roof to reduce the amount of air particles.

11.  Clean rooms with a damp cloth or mop. Do not sweep or use a vacuum cleaner.

12.  Use air filters rated for fine particle (PM 2.5).

13.  Stop the engine when you park.

14.  Stay fit and eat more foods high in vitamins C and D.
