According to Tourism Authority of Thailand, the influx of tourists to Chiang Mai this past weekend has hit its projected numbers, with over 90,000 visitors to the province over the long weekend generating over 730 million baht.

As predicted, many hotels reported up to 90% occupancy, the highest this year.

“The reason Chiang Mai has seen so many visitors is because of our cooler weather, which is very attractive to visitors from the rest of the country,” said Phakanan Winitchai, Director of TAT Chiang Mai. “Doi Inthanon, Chom Thong, Hang Dong and Mae Taeng saw the most tourists, with Mon Jam being the most popular destination, with many tourists joining various activities in the vicinity from zip lines to ATV rides to waterfalls.”

The director went on to say that this year’s focus for many visitors are the flower farms in Mae Rim, where over 1,000 rai of land is blanketed by winter flowers.
