CityNews – The Nang Hlong family had tears in their eyes as they gazed at their new home.

On the 22nd April 2019 a fire broke out at a house in Hod District of Chiang Mai. It was the home of Hlong Pengpei, 32, a Karen villager who lost the entire house in the blaze, where he lived with his wife.

Following news of the devastating fire, both government officials and private citizens sent money, goods and necessities to the family in their time of need.

On the 22nd May, one month after the fire, reporters from Chiang Mai Online were told by the chief of the district in Hod that a number of local organisations had approved of a combined 33,000 baht fund to help the family.

The husband and wife were in tears as they thanked all who helped them, as they stood in front of their new single storey two bedroom home which cost 200,000 baht to build, the majority of the money having been donated by private citizens.
