Army’s Special Forces Gear Up to Destroy Opium Farms

CityNews – Army Force 3 has reported their intent to rid the north of Thailand from opium farms between August 2013 and February 2014. A special force is being funded by the Office of Narcotics Control Board in a bid to free Northern Thailand from the illicit substance.

Since August, the soldiers on the special force have reported finds of 2,484 patches of opium of which they have destroyed  2,474 patches (99.5%). These patches of opium make up a collective 1,612.95 rai (about 2.5 km²) and were found the provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Tak, Kam Paeng Pet, Lampang, and Nan.
