5000-Baht Reward for Turning in Burners

CityNews – If you see someone burning then call the number below and on arrest of the perpetrators you will get 5,000 baht. That is what the local government is telling us anyway.

A forest in Phrao on fire last weekend

On March 18th, Chiang Mai Vice Governor Chana Paengpiboon kicked off an emergency meeting with the Pollution Crisis cabinet in Chiang Mai, at the Offices for Natural Resources and Environment conference room [on 2nd floor of main office building], city hall. They also asked Wing 41 for air support in spraying water around Chiang Mai and extinguishing forest fires.

The 80-day Forest Fire Watch, established by Chiang Mai Offices for Natural Resources and Environment (CM ONRE), is from February 1 to April 21. Since February 1, the ONRE have received 549 calls about forest fires, causing damage to an estimated 5,026.5 rai (1987.3 acres), with 979 hotspots.

The CM ONRE asked locals to refrain from burning waste of any kind. If you see someone burning you can call CM ONRE at 053-112-725 or 053-112-726.
