The Department of Highways has issued advance notice to motorists using southern routes in Chiang Mai. The contractor for the Samoeng intersection overpass project will adjust traffic lane configurations and implement road diversions from 20th August 2026 onwards, continuing until the project is completed.
The diversions are needed to support bridge construction work at the point where Highway 121 (the third ring road) meets Highway 108 (the Chiang Mai-Hot road). The project area requires lane restrictions and traffic pattern adjustments in line with the construction plan, for the safety of both drivers and site workers.
The project team has already installed warning signs, traffic lights, flashing lights and other safety equipment at checkpoints along the route.
Motorists who regularly pass through the Samoeng intersection, or who have family members, colleagues or community members who do so, are advised to plan ahead — leaving home earlier or identifying alternative routes during peak hours from 20th August onwards.
