Despite hotel bookings being down compared to last year, Chiang Mai saw a larger number of tourists staying in the city after the Songkran festivities had ended than the year before.

Many of these tourists were Chinese, who had flown to Chiang Mai directly from China.

The sunday walking street was very busy last weekend, and many Thais and foreigners also visited the Cho Lae Bridge, a new tourist destination in Chiang Mai where the water from the Mae Ngat Dam flows through to the Ping River.
