With temperatures across many parts of Chiang Mai province exceeding 40 Celsius for several days now, natural water attractions are drawing unusually large crowds of visitors seeking relief from the heat. Among the most popular destinations is the Buatong Waterfall and Seven-Colour Spring in Mae Taeng district—Sticky Waterfall—where both Thai and foreign tourists have been arriving in force.
Cars have been queuing to enter the national park each day, with families spreading mats under the shade of large trees for picnics.
Between March and April, the site receives an average of 2,800 to 3,000 visitors per day.
Entry is currently free of charge, as the area holds provisional national park status pending full designation. The approval process has been completed and now awaits sign-off from the incoming cabinet. Once officially gazetted, entry fees will be introduced in line with other national parks across the country, with revenue directed toward conservation and management of the site.
