The northern regional round of the “Youth Preserve Thai Songs” Season 3 competition opened at Central Chiang Mai Airport on 5 September, with Chiang Mai Governor Ratthaphon Naradisorn presiding over the event.
Organised by the Crown Property Bureau, the nationwide competition gives young singers the chance to perform luk krung, luk thung and contemporary Thai songs, with trophies, certificates and total prize money of more than 500,000 baht.
This year, 2,205 young people applied nationwide, with 360 selected for four regional rounds. Ninety contestants compete in each region, with only nine advancing to the next stage and a five-day vocal training programme in Bangkok before the semi-finals.
The northern round was held at Central Chiang Mai Airport on 5–6 September, featuring luk krung and luk thung on Saturday, followed by contemporary Thai songs on Sunday.
Further regional rounds will take place in Bangkok, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Korat throughout September.
