CityNews – Passengers on a Thai Airways flight (TG111) from Chiang Mai to Bangkok were shocked and frightened after one of the engines exploded 20 minutes after takeoff.
On June 11, at around 5.35pm, one of the engines failed on the aircraft, causing a large explosion to be heard and caused the aircraft to shake.
The captain of the aircraft managed turn back to Chiang Mai Airport and perform an emergency landing.
All passengers were safe and no further damage to the aircraft was reported.
Thai Airways posted on their Facebook account that the cause of the explosion was ‘engine failure’ and people do not need to panic.
Thai Airways then arranged another aircraft to take the passengers to Bangkok later the same day.
