Chiang Mai: Scholar Gateway Education Centre hosted a workshop titled “The Modern Challenges of Getting into University” at its Fifth Avenue Meechok location in San Sai, Chiang Mai, offering students and parents insights into the increasingly complex university admissions process.

The workshop brought together education specialists to discuss the challenges of applying to leading universities in Thailand and overseas, helping families better understand admission requirements, academic preparation and the importance of early planning.

Among the speakers was Dawn Parry, University Counsellor at Prem International School in Chiang Mai, who received the 2026 Lifetime Achievement in Counselling Award from Times Higher Education. With 23 years of teaching experience and 12 years in university counselling, Parry is also a co-founder of the Northern Thailand Counsellors’ Consortium (NTCC).

Joining her was Jurairat Narajit, a university admissions counsellor specialising in applications from Thailand, who shared insights into the admissions process and the challenges faced by students applying from the country.

Discussions covered a range of topics, including why university admissions have become more competitive, differences between Thai and international application systems, choosing suitable universities and courses, assessing students’ readiness for higher education, and managing examination schedules and application deadlines.

The workshop also emphasised the importance of identifying students’ strengths, developing essential skills and preparing well in advance to make informed decisions about their educational future.
