On September 15, Chiang Mai Governor Thotsapol Phueanudom, together with the Commander of Provincial Police Region 5 and representatives from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 5, announced the arrest of a major drug trafficker. Authorities seized 3,730,000 methamphetamine pills and a large shipment of crystal methamphetamine weighing 100 kilograms. Anusorn Masuk, a 24-year-old man from Ratchaburi, was arrested along with the grey Isuzu pickup truck used to transport the drugs.
On the night of September 13, the task force observed a grey Isuzu pickup truck with a canvas-covered bed driving along the Chiang Mai – Phrao Road and heading into Muang Chiang Mai. Another grey Isuzu with a Bangkok license plate was seen leading the way toward Lamphun Province.
The task force decided to shoot the tires to stop the vehicle. The driver, Danuson Masuk, was arrested at the scene along with the seized drugs. Meanwhile, the grey Isuzu with Bangkok plates, fled toward Mae Taeng District. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
The Commander of Provincial Police Region 5 stated that the region has developed new technology to detect and track suspicious vehicles that display abnormal movement. This AI-driven innovation is expected to enhance the efficiency of drug suppression operations.
