CityNews – 12th February 2020. Police of the Region 5 ICT Crime Suppression Unit interviewed a young man who posted a picture of himself posing with a firearm and the message, “yesterday Korat, today Chiang Mai”. Following the recent Korat tragedy, the post caused outrage and fear, being shared many times and attracting the wrath of social media users throughout Thailand before being deleted.

Knowing the post originated from Chiang Mai, police immediately investigated, but an unidentified young man of around 20-years old surrendered before they made an arrest. The man apologised for his actions, brought on by an argument with his friend and being drunk. He stated it was not meant to be a terrorist threat, but he will still face consequences.

His social media accounts have been closed, and he has warned others not to act like he did.
