The Chiang Mai Gate Market is bustling as vendors rush to apply for the government’s Half-Half Plus programme, inputting their details into the application since earlier this morning.
A two minute process will have vendors now participating in the Half-Half Plus programme which many say they hope will help stimulate the economy and ease their financial burdens.

“As people have the ability to purchase more, with the government subsidy, our sales o up and life eases. It is easy to apply and the government has made sure that we all benefit. I do know that this is a short term programme, but it is helpful,” said Preecha Penchai, owner of a small stall in the market.

Some vendors, however, refuse to join the programme as they are not comfortable with sharing their sales numbers with the government.
