Governor Thossaphon Phuean-Udom followed up on the Mae Kha Canal landscape improvement project, and told CityNews that it will be fully complete early next year as a New Year’s gift to Chiang Mai residents.

Governor Thossaphon explained that the project covers three phases, spanning about 4.5 kilometres from Rattanakosin Bridge to Mahidol Bridge. It includes scenic improvements along both banks and the construction of a concrete walkway and a walkway linking both sides of the canal for walking, jogging, cycling, and recreation.

Phase 1 has been completed, while Phase 3 is expected to be finished by 5th December 2025, and Phase 2 by early 2026—timed as a New Year’s gift to Chiang Mai citizens.

The governor and his entourage also discussed flood prevention in low-lying areas downstream of the canal, especially in Sri Ping Muang community. The province has allocated 27 million baht for new drainage pipes and another 200 million baht will be used to expand Mae Kha Noi Canal. Plans are also underway for a 2-kilometre drainage tunnel from Kad Kom community to the Ping River.
