Long weekend expect to draw 30% increase in tourists

The Airport Organisation of Thailand’s Chiang Mai Director told CityNews that the current long holiday, running between 13th-17th July, is seeing a large increase in the numbers of tourists visiting Chiang Mai.

According to Wichit Kaewsaitiem, AOT’s director, this long weekend will see an increase of up to 30% in the number of arrivals.

He went on to say that the airport expects 14,000 arrivals each day this month, with 13,400 being domestic. There are around 90-100 flights per day with only for being international.

However, over this current long weekend the numbers have risen to around 18,000 arrivals per day with around 17,000 being domestic There are currently three international flights arriving in Chiang Mai, from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul.

He went on to apologise for any delays which may occur as screening processes take time, he says, asking all arrivals to check their documents prior to travel.
