Greenbus has introduced the North’s first fleet of electric buses, unveiling 12 “EV GREENBUS” vehicles now operating on two pilot routes: Chiang Mai–Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai–Phayao. The move marks a major step toward clean-energy public transportation and is expected to reduce diesel consumption by over 1 million liters per year, while helping cut PM2.5 pollution across the region. The company plans to convert all northern routes to electric buses within five years.
The launch was presided over by Chiang Mai Governor Ruttaphon Naradisorn, Green Capital CEO Krittiphat Thongkhamkhoon, and Chiang Mai Transport Chief Manop Phuttawong.
The first-phase investment, valued at nearly 100 million baht, will allow the electric buses on the two pilot routes to cover more than 3 million kilometers annually, reducing diesel use by 1,076,093 liters and cutting carbon emissions by around 960 tons per year—equivalent to planting 96,000 trees. Each bus is also equipped with a PM2.5 filtration system to improve air quality for passengers.
Officials say this transition marks the beginning of a sustainable, green public transport model for the North—one that benefits both the environment and local communities.
In addition, Greenbus has invested in the construction of an AIR SUPER CHARGE station, equipped with six fast-charging heads delivering up to 720 kWh. The station will serve not only EV GREENBUS vehicles but also private EV drivers, supporting Chiang Mai’s push to become a truly clean-energy city. Plans are already underway to expand the FAIR SUPER CHARGE network to key northern provinces, including Chiang Rai and major tourism hubs.
Green Capital CEO Krittiphat Thongkhamkhoon added that Greenbus currently operates around 100 buses, with 80 serving upper-northern routes and 20 serving interregional routes. This year, 12 EV buses are entering service in the northern network, with the number set to rise to 25 buses in 2026, and a complete transition to EVs planned within five years.
