Chiang Mai Governor Thossaphon Phuean-Udom, along with provincial and municipal officials, inspected flood prevention measures in the Chang Khian community around noon today.

The municipality has installed additional large water pumps at the Chang Khian floodgate and is preparing to lay new drainage pipes at the Chang Khian–Jed Yod intersection to improve water flow.

The new hydraulic diesel-powered mobile water pump is worth over 10 million baht and is capable of draining 1.5 cubic metres per second. Together with two existing electric pumps and two temporary ones provided by other agencies, the total drainage capacity now reaches around six cubic metres per second.

Governor Thossaphon told CityNews that both locations are key drainage points for runoff from Doi Suthep, which often causes local flooding.

At the Chang Khian–Jed Yod intersection, an old drainage pipe previously connected to the irrigation canal was blocked during bridge construction, slowing drainage during rainfall. To fix this, the municipality—together with the Highways Department, Irrigation Office, and Public Works Department—plans to install two new underground pipes along both sides of the road to link directly to the canal. The project is expected to be completed within two weeks.

Officials believe these measures will significantly reduce flood risks during any future heavy rains this year and enhance readiness for the next rainy season.
