Governor Thotsapol Phueanudom made an announcement today asking the tourism industry here in Chiang Mai to get ready for the high season. He said that Chiang Mai is now officially a festival city and expects to attract year round tourists to come to featured festivals being highlighted every month as well as the many others occurring in any given day. “We will use the soft power of Chiang Mai’s rich culture and history along with our campaign to become a low carbon city to attract more visitors,” he said.
He added that Chiang Mai has seen a 32% increase in rainfall from last year, totalling 1,314 millimetres of rain when compared to last year’s 999 mil. How we, he wishes to reassure the public that the dredging of 42kms of the Ping River has proven successful and that he doesn’t anticipate further flooding this year.
Areas which have been affected, such as many villages in Mae Chaem, are receiving government funding and support.
