The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation sent a warning message via cell broadcast system to residents in several districts of Chiang Mai, alerting them to the risk of landslides in steep and mountainous areas between now and 24th July, following continuous heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation.

The warning covers the following districts: Omkoi, Chom Thong, San Sai, Doi Saket, Mae Rim, Mae Taeng, Chiang Dao, Fang, and Mae Ai.

Residents are advised to prepare essential items, such as flashlights, medication, and important documents, avoid risk-prone areas and watch for warning signs such as cracking sounds from trees, leaning trees, startled wildlife, and the sound of moving mud or flash floods.

This is the second warning issued. The first was sent yesterday evening regarding the impact of Tropical Storm Wipha.

On the same day, Chiang Mai International Airport announced that residents affected by flooding are allowed to park their personal vehicles for free within the airport premises from now until the 26th.

Parking is available for:

  • 50 vehicles at the southern parking lot of the passenger terminal (Larn Chang area),
  • 200 vehicles at the football field opposite the cargo warehouse.

Residents must present a copy of their vehicle registration and ID card to airport staff when parking.

As of the latest update:

  • 11 reservoirs have water levels between 51%–79%,
  • 2 reservoirs have water levels between 31%–50%.
