The Royal Irrigation Department reported heavy rainfall of 32 millimeters on Doi Suthep between 2 pm and 4 pm on September 22, 2025, which caused flash floods to flow down from the mountain into Wat Pha Lat. The sudden surge of water overflowed through natural waterways, passing the temple.
Chiang Mai Governor Thotsapol Phueanudom has instructed all districts and relevant agencies to monitor rainfall and water levels closely, and to remain prepared around the clock for any potential impacts.
Meanwhile, the Northern Meteorological Center issued its first announcement of the season (No. 131/2568), warning of heavy rainfall in the northern region. Thunderstorms are expected in 60–80% of the area, with isolated heavy rain likely between September 22 and 26. Very heavy rainfall is expected in some areas on September 25 and 26. From September 27 to 28, thunderstorms are forecast in 40–60% of the region, with more isolated heavy rain possible.
Residents in at-risk areas are advised to remain alert for potential flash floods and forest runoff, particularly those living on hillsides, near waterways, or in low-lying areas.
