Villagers in Thung Khao Phuang subdistrict, Chiang Dao district, have rescued a young barking deer found collapsed near the Ban Mae Cha community after fleeing wildfires burning through Pha Daeng National Park. The animal was visibly exhausted and had a wound on its forehead, believed to have been sustained while fleeing the flames.
Residents handed the deer over to Pha Daeng National Park officials, who administered first aid and set up a recovery enclosure for the animal. Veterinarians from the Wildlife Clinic of Protected Area Regional Office 16 have been called in to carry out a full examination. If the deer is found to have no serious injuries and its condition stabilises, it will be released back into the wild.
The rescue is one of a growing number of incidents in which wildlife displaced by wildfires has been found wandering near communities bordering forested areas.
