On the morning of September 25, 2025, at Doo Chang Doo Doi Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary in Mae Taeng District, elephants were moved out of the risk area after water levels in the Mae Taeng River continued to rise. The rising water was caused by heavy rain in Mae Taeng and Chiang Dao Districts, which are upstream areas of the Mae Taeng River.
A caretaker at Doo Chang Doo Doi Chiang Mai revealed that throughout the night, the mahout team had been closely monitoring the situation. By morning, they decided to evacuate all elephants to a safe area and remove essential supplies from buildings located along the river. He confirmed that all elephants are now safe.
At 6.40 a.m., the water level in the Mae Taeng River was 2.20 meters, and it had risen to 2.30 meters by 7.50 a.m. The river is approaching a critical level of 2.80 meters. Water levels are expected to keep rising and will require ongoing observation.
