CityNews – 28th January 2020, Amornrat Chumsai Na Ayutthaya, Director of Chiang Mai International Airport, announced to the press that CNX airport has followed all set procedures to ensure no passengers carrying the coronavirus enters Thailand through its gates.

Latest news is that along with all flights from Wuhan having been cancelled, all passengers from Guangzhou, of which there are 28 direct flights to Chiang Mai per week, or 3-5 flights per day, will be subject to heightened screening. Since the 25th January implementation of the extra screening, a total of 15 flights, or 1,324 passengers, have been cleared with no suspected carriers.

The director went on to say that they are currently in the process of setting apart an entire area separate from the main terminal for all flights from China. Regular dousing of the terminal with antiseptic sprays, and liberal availability of cleansing gels, plastic gloves and masks are to be found throughout the airport and used by all airport personnel. All trolleys, chairs, lounges, toilets and anything that is touched will be cleaned regularly.

He said that he would like to assure the public that the airport is not taking this matter lightly and will do anything in its power to protect the arrival of this virus to Chiang Mai through its terminals.
