The Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, has unveiled newly renovated Intensive Cardiac Care and Stroke Critical Care Units at Sripat Building, designed to meet international hospital standards and provide comprehensive patient care.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narent Chotirassniramit, Dean of the Faculty, said the renovation was necessary after years of continuous use had deteriorated the facilities and limited their capacity to serve the rising number of patients.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arintaya Phrommintikul, Director of Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, noted that the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), operating since 1998, now treats 450–500 critical heart patients annually, with increasing complexity. The new facility includes upgraded infrastructure, medical gas and power systems, infection control ventilation, and 12 patient beds equipped with advanced monitoring and nurse-call systems.

Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Dr. Surath Tanpravech from the Northern Neuroscience Centre said the Stroke ICU, established in 2007, has doubled capacity from 6 to 12 beds, with better spacing, private zones, neuro-monitoring, and isolation rooms for drug-resistant infections.

The modernisation will improve survival rates and patient comfort while enhancing staff efficiency and hospital safety. Dr. Narent concluded that these upgrades reflect the Faculty’s vision of being “a medical school of the heart—advancing sustainable health through innovation.”
