Earlier today an MOU was signed between Chiang Mai University and the Chiang Mai Tourist Police to develop and expand the capacities of CCTV networks across Chiang Mai.
Citing past success in helping to catch criminals and solve crimes, the Commander of the Tourist Police Thailand, Sukhun Phrommai, told CityNews that the two organisations have now signed an MOU to commit to further studying how to develop the network for greater public good as well as to be of use to strengthen and support the tourist industry.
AI and mechanical learning will be developed within the system so that it is smarter and better able to be a useful tool to combat crime and also help out with many social issues.
Whereas the technology has been used, to date, to find criminals and fight crimes, it has mainly been used in real time or as a recorder of the past, explained Associate Professor Prasert Rerkkriangkrai, Vice President of Chiang Mai University. Going forward, he said, he technology can help to identify problematic areas or times and dates, so that we can be prewarned of potential for crime and can begin to work on prevention.
