Children’s Winter Clothing Appeal 2022 Launches

‘Tis the season again, and the Chiang Mai International Rotary Club is launching its 7th annual Children’s Winter Clothing Appeal. We collect warm winter clothes, shoes, and blankets and donate them to vulnerable indigenous and migrant children and families living in the hills of Northern Thailand.

The mountainous areas can be surprisingly cold from November to January. Temperatures can drop down to close to the freezing point. It can prove especially tough for those unable to afford proper clothing. We want to offer a hand to those in desperate need of help and warmth.

Please consider popping into your nearest thrift store and buying jackets, sweaters, pants, leggings, socks, tights, shoes, hats, and gloves for young children. If your kids have outgrown some of their winter clothes, you can take them to the donation drop-off points in Chiang Mai between October 15 – December 1, 2022

What we need

· Warm coats, jackets
· Pullovers / sweatshirts / cardigans
· Long-sleeve shirts and T-shirts
· Long pants, leggings, and jeans
· Scarves
· Caps
· Gloves
· Socks (for school too) / warm tights
· Closed-toe shoes and sneakers; formal school shoes
· Blankets

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 safety concerns, we would like to place an increased emphasis on the cleanliness of the donations. We request that you wash the clothes, if necessary, and pack them in plastic bags before dropping them off. Wear a mask and use hand sanitizer before and after drop-offs.

Donations drop-off points:

· Rimping – Meechok Plaza / Nawarat Bridge / Nim City / Mae Hia / Kad Farang / Maya
· Makro Hang Dong / Mae Rim / Superhighway
· Chiang Mai International School (CMIS)
· Unity Concord International School (UCIS)
· Lanna International School (LIST) – Airport & North Hill
· HomePro Sansai @ Rimping

If you are returning to Chiang Mai from overseas, we would greatly appreciate it if you brought some winter clothes with you. Do not forget to ask your friends to donate, too. These winter items will make a massive difference to vulnerable people.

Thanks to the generous donations, last year, we collected and delivered a record weight of 9,993.13 kg (22,031.08 lbs) of warm clothing, blankets, shoes, jackets, school supplies, and toys. We distributed donations to 17 remote, hard-to-access locations in 8 Northern provinces, namely Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Tak, Nan, Phayao, Mae Hong Son, and Uttaradit, with hundreds of children and families benefitting.

Please note that we are unable to do individual collections. If you wish to donate, you can do so at one of the many collection points conveniently spread throughout the town. If you do not have transportation, we would like to recommend using a ride-hail service like Grab or Bolt.

We hope that together with your generous help, we will be able to continue to help those in desperate need of warmth.
