Party leaders from the Mon, Karen, Chin, Kachin, Kayah, Tailai (Red Shan) and Burman ethnic groups met members of the Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team, which represents armed ethnic groups in the peace talks, The Irrawaddy reported.

Activists said women needed greater legal protections and urged negotiators to consider the safety of women in conflict zones.

A summit of Burma’s armed ethnic organisations is expected to be held in Chiang Mai from July 24 to 26, Mizzima news agency reported.
