CityNews – 26th December 2019, at the construction site of Highway 118 Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai in the area around Pa-miang to Pang Namtu, director of Chiang Mai Highway District 2 and related authorities informed reporters about the opening up of a four lane highway (expanded from two lanes) of highway 118 (the area of Pa-miang to Pang Namtu) Km, 42+000 – Km. 51+250 with total length of 9.25 Kms. On 27th December onward, passengers can use this new part of road, serving traffic during New Year. However, all the details of this part will be completed within February 2020.
The whole project is to expand the two lane road to a four lane road including 2.5 metre wide road shoulders for each side to help reduce accidents along the winding mountainous road. The project of highway 118 was divided into 3 parts. All the work is expected to be completed by the middle of 2021.
