Authorities have been closely monitoring the river’s water level

This morning (September 26, 2025), Chiang Mai Governor Thotsapol Phueanudom inspected the Ping River at point P.1, Nawarat Bridge, and confirmed that there would be no flooding in the city centre.

Although water levels are currently decreasing, heavy rain last night caused the river to rise higher than expected. The Chiang Mai Irrigation Project predicts that the maximum water level today will not exceed 3.70 meters.

Following dredging that deepened the Ping River by 2 meters and widened it by 40 meters to improve drainage, the riverbank level has been raised to 4.85 meters. This increase allows the river to handle up to 577 cubic meters of water per second, significantly reducing the risk of overflow.

Though the rain radar data shows no significant rainfall today, temporary barriers will be reinforced with sand piles, and 24-hour monitoring will be maintained.
