Music in the Menagerie
Chiang Mai Zoo
Saturday, 6th December 2025
1-2 pm – Concert in the Central Square
2-5 pm – Concert for the Animals in their Compounds
Cultural Crossroads Asia invites you to attend a very special concert by Akha students of the Akha Oral Tradition School in Ban Saen Suk, Chiang Rai. From 1 to 2 pm, they will perform for ‘humans’ the songs, musical instruments, and life lessons of their Akha ancestors in the Zoo’s Central Square.
From 2 to 5 pm, the Akha youth will hop on the Zoo’s shuttle bus to play music to ‘the birds and beasts’ in their animal compounds. Visitors can follow along by walking or by small rental carts.
Hearing age-old Akha music and watching the lions, tigers, turtles, monkeys, flamingos, and giraffes respond to traditional ‘rhythms and blues’ is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. . . See you there!
