CityNews – On February 15th, it was reported that officers from Development Division 3, administrative officials and villagers from Pa Paeng and Srimongkol communities signed an agreement of land expropriation in order to solve the problems of Ngern Canal.
This canal is a section of the city’s Mae Kha Canal which is currently undergoing development. Houses have been built along the banks of the canal without legal permission, many polluting the canal with untreated wastes and causing bad smells. There have also been issues concerning constructions that invade the canal space, often for long periods of time.
The result of the negotiation between the authorities and 70 households on February 7th was successful. The villagers agreed to move out from the area within 100 days or before May 15th, 2018. The houses will be demolished and the development of the canal will continue after they have been moved.
