Yesterday the Public Health Ministry announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved of Covid-19 antigen test kits to be made available for sale over the counter by next week. This announcement was first announced on Tuesday in the Royal Gazette.
This announcement has led residents of Chiang Mai to flock to various pharmacies today to buy over the counter home testing kits, only to be disappointed to find that they are not available.
Pharmacies say that they are yet to stock any kits as they await for official notices from the public health ministry.
The government has capped the cost of tests at 300 baht to allow widespread access.
Two pharmacies Citylife visited said that they had between ten to twenty people come in today so far to ask for the test.
