This som tum destination on Nimmanhaemin Road is about to celebrate its 12th anniversary. Apart from the standard Thai and isaan som tums, owner Rachaneekorn Chirakul is a real innovator and always coming up with intriguing new dishes to serve in her mortar. Everything is guaranteed fresh and sans MSG. So, why not start with tum muang muang, of spicy shredded bamboo shoots served with crunchy pork rind, fermented pork sausage, sour pork, and northern Thai spicy sausage. Their delicious rong jong som tum is served with fresh crab, a nice change for those a bit averse to the strong flavours of pickled crab. All a bit too spicy? Never fear, you can order it to taste, or temper it with a side dish of fried chicken wings in fish sauce or grilled pork with herbs and chilies in Thai dressing. Basically this is a nice elegant restaurant in a great setting with good service serving some of the best flavours Thai street food has to offer.
