White House Bed & Breakfast is a hip and intimate guesthouse. This is a stylish place for those looking for something a bit different. The guest house is in the heart of the trendy part of town; on the doorstep are many cafes, bars, restaurants, galleries and shops. Staying here you are sure to spot some of the cool kids and artsy crown that hang out in this area. Forget tacky ‘American breakfasts’ offered in many Thai guesthouses, you will be treated to a proper northern Thai breakfast. You can also pour yourself free hot drinks 24 hours a day. Art the friendly owner, is a real character and takes pride in the personalised service given to all guests. The best bits are the balconies where guests can sit with a glass of wine or European beer and enjoy a view of the mountains.

Rioja, Rioja, Rioja! We loved this place. Not only does it carry with it a hefty reputation of many years of serving Spanish cuisine in super-stylish Chit Lom Bangkok where it was frequented by the rich and famous, but the staff are really up in the service game. The Bangkok branch is annually featured in Thailand Tatler’s Best Restaurants. We tried an array of tapas such as spicy mussels, garlic clams, Spanish omelette, and calamari. The meatballs in a rich tomato and pepper sauce with soft white bread and cool Andalusian Gazpacho was perfect for warm Thai weather. There is of course lots of Spanish wine on offer, vegetarian meals and sweets like banana flambé and Catalan and caramel custard puddings. And how could we nearly forget, sangria! Here sangria is sold by the glass or jug! All at very reasonable prices.

D Condo is a new development in Chiang Mai by Sansiri, near the back of Chiang Mai University.  We went down to the new show room and were impressed with the stylish set up, and the faux grassy floor under foot. The place was packed with prospective buyers and busy sales people. Sansiri is a well known development company with shiny new condos all over the country. At the show room you can see what the living space would look like in real life, as they have decorated two units, one with a girly theme and the other more cool and contemporary. All the units come fully furnished, so you wouldn’t need to think about hiking stuff up the stairs. The blocks are designed in a campus style so there is a feeling of community.

(Suthep road past the university gates at Pun Pun Vegetarian restaurant, you will see the Sansiri sales room signs on the left hand side)

The name Librarista is – believe it or not! – from the words library and barista, encapsulating the main focus of this new swish cafe; books and coffee. Drop in for a refreshing coffee, smoothie or cake and sit in the library or cafe space. The library has a contemporary Japanese design, it is perfect for a spot of quiet reading or study. You can read the books in-house, or become a member for 1000 baht a year and borrow the books to take home. There is a decent selection of books in Thai and English including travel guides, novels, art and design books, magazines and more. Members can also use the meeting rooms upstairs. The shop has a Nespresso corner where you can get a personalised coffee, there are also speciality drinks like Matcha lemonade.
