Want to live amongst the elephants? Walk with the elephants, talk with the elephants, grunt and squeak and squawk with the elephants? Have your own Dr. Doolittle moment at the Thai Elephants Homestay, where you can learn how to be a mahout for a day, or three!

Located in the beautiful Mae Sa Valley, just half an hour north of the city centre, the Maesa Elephant Camp is a place you can feel good about supporting.  Here, the goal is to provide a proper environment for elephants to live in while helping to counteract their increasingly endangered status through education, conservation and healthy breeding.  As the mahouts point out, there were over 100,000 elephants in Thailand at the turn of the last century.  Today, there are less than 5,000.

At Maesa Elephant Camp, you can befriend your very own elephant and learn how to ride, train, feed, and bathe it. All Mahout Courses include a seminar on elephant health, biology and body language, as well as an elephant painting demonstration.

Courses start at 6,500 baht for one day, including hotel transport, meals and group photos. Overnight stays include cooking classes, hilltribe visits, and other activities.
