Witnesses gave police a description of a woman, between 25-30 years old, that left the suitcase at the scene at around 6am and walked into the market.

Several hours later, no one saw her return. The owner of the shop became suspicious of the suitcase and decided to alert authorities.

Witnesses at the scene began to panic about the suitcase, when finally a woman showed up and claimed she was the owner of the suitcase.

She told the police that she traveled to Chiang Mai alone. At the moment, she was hungry, so she went to get some food in the market. She claimed that her suitcase was very heavy, so she left it outside and would pick it up later. She claimed that she forgot the way back to her suitcase, and that’s why it took so long for her return, and found the crowd examining her luggage.

The woman apologized to everyone for the panic, and did not mean to cause any disturbance. The incident is an example of how one should never leave unattended luggage in a public space, especially in light of the recent bombing in Bangkok.
