The accident occurred at around 9.45am in Pa Miang sub-district, leading to Doi Nang Kaew. That stretch of the road is known to locals as “the curve of 100 bodies”, due to the high number of road accidents there.

A rescue team from Doi Saket attended the scene, where they found the dead man, 45-year-old Sompong Yarangsee of Chiang Rai’s Wiang Pa Pao district, the driver of one of the trucks.

One man and two women in the vehicle with him were injured, as was the 18-year-old driver of the other truck. Two of the injured were in a serious condition and were taken to Doi Saket Hospital.

Investigators believe both trucks were being driven at high speed before they collided. The road is curved and was slippery due to heavy rain.
