35-year-old Proi Sukjai has told reporters that her daughter cannot walk and has to sit or sleep all day long which then causes additional bed sores.

Herniated nucleus pulposus is a condition where the soft central portion of the intervertebral disk is forced through a weakened part of the disk, resulting in severe back pain and nerve root irritation.

Proi works as a maid and earns 8,000 baht a month. She rents a room in Hai Ya and has to leave her daughter at a nursery when she goes to work.

Proi told CityNews that only three days after her daughter was born, she had to have surgery. Ever since, her daughter has had to visit the hospital regularly for ongoing treatment.

Proi broke up with the girl’s father when she was pregnant, and despite trying to contact him, she has heard nothing from him and received no help.

She also added that she believes the deformity may be due to a fall she had when she was three months pregnant.
On average, Proi spends 5,000 to 6,000 baht per month for her daughter’s medical expenses.
