CityNews – Doi Inthanon National Park has announce that the Azaleas at Giw Mae Parn have bloomed one month earlier than expected, which is a sign that this year’s winter will be very cold and most likely last longer than previous years.
Azaleas, a type of rose, usually bloom between December and March every year, covering the areas of Doi Inthanon with crimson red colours.
Pornthep Charoensuebsakul, head of Doi Inthanon National Park, told CityNews that the early bloom was very strange, but does suggest that this winter will be very cold. He also suggested that the early bloom could be due to rapid climate change in the area.
Roses litter all parts of Doi Inthanon, but visitors who wish to observe the beautiful flowers should keep the the Giw Mae Parn area only, as other areas are considered dangerous, with steep hills and no designated footpaths.
Azaleas are a winter flower found on mountains or in rainforests that are 1000 to 2500 metres above sea level.
